Traditional Music Festival

Sponsored by Ohio Valley Gathering Inc.

The Ohio Valley Gathering is a 29 year old Traditional Music Festival sponsored by OVG  Inc., and supported by Friends of the Ohio Valley Gathering.

The Ohio Valley Gathering is an acoustic music festival held each year in March. It features the Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer, blending with other traditional instruments and musical styles.

We have over 50 hours of classes each year for the hammered and mountain dulcimer, penny whistle, ukulele, banjo, banjammer, guitar, mandolin, folk percussion, bowed psaltery, washtub bass.

Ohio Valley Gathering, Friday, March 13th-Sunday March 15th, 2015

For 2015, arrive at the Hilton in downtown Lexington, Kentucky (information below) on Friday afternoon, check in and get your new OVG shirt, hop in the pool, get a quick work out in, then do some shopping for new supplies. Gather in the main hall for the Friday night concert, with many individuals, groups, and clubs participating. After the concert, there is jamming through the building, which is a long standing tradition and goes on late into the night. Go to the hospitality room and make some new friends, and fellowship with those long distance friends.  There is also an "Under 21" group all weekend, for the beginners and the up and coming kids! It's their own space to jam, hang out, and try out new music.

Saturday starts with classes, shopping, jams, and fellowship through the building, with the Fiddle Walk (bring your tiara, feather boas, beads, gloves, the works!). Get a quick bite to eat, find a great spot, and enjoy the Saturday concert finale. You will be amazed and impressed not only at the folks next to you who just got off stage, but hopefully you will be joining in this tradition!

Sunday morning gospel sing is a long standing tradition for us to gather and sing one last time before we head out to home again.

40 plus vendors will be selling handmade music instruments and related items all weekend. Be sure to talk to the builders, listen to the sounds, try out, and buy new instruments, and ask for help from the luthiers with any dulcimers (or other instruments!) that need a doctor.

Enrollment for the 2014-15 "Friends of OVG" is open until Wednesday, December 31, 2014.

See "Registration" page for form.

Walk in Registration for OVG remains open until Saturday morning

The Shirt and Tote orders are CLOSED as of February  15th 2015

Walk in Registration for OVG is $12 at the door, and open until Saturday 3/14 at 11 a.m.

New enrollment or renewal memberships for the new year (March 2014-15) will begin during the OVG weekend.  At that time you can visit the Friends of the OVG table, pay dues and receive the new 2014 pin.  With your membership is free admission to the next year festival. We will also have lanyards available so you can display your new pin along with your pins of the past years.  Thank you for your continued support of the OVG and Friends group!

The Ohio Valley Gathering is supported by Friends of the Ohio Valley Gathering. For your contribution of $25, you will become a member of Friends of the Ohio Valley Gathering to help keep it going for many years to come.
